This little boy…where to begin. I love this little guy. We butt heads much of the time because he knows more than I do whether he is wrong or right, but he is the funniest, smartest boy around. He loves to read, add, color, and play with friends. He loves to be hugged and kissed. He is kind to his sister (most of the time), a great helper and becomes a friend to anyone and everyone.  I sure love him!

This fantastic couch has been my companion on many a photo shoot, but it, unfortunately,  is time to let it go (for various reason). I hope it is just what someone out there is looking for. It is in fantastic shape and I actually had it cleaned within the last year. It photographs so well and is a unique and fun prop. I am asking $350 for it. Please email me if you are interested!! Thanks!

Here are a few sessions where I used it. Isn’t it beautiful?!?

BTW–I get more requests for this couch than any other prop I own!!

Hair Yo-Yos, Crafty Sunday-St. George, Utah Photographer

Posted on January 24, 2010

I love to make things…sew, knit, crochet, hot glue. I thought it would be fun to share some of the projects I do that are easy and fun. Here goes the first. Let me know if you like them and how they turn out for you!

I call these Hair Yo-Yo’s because they remind me of a quilting technique that they call Yo-Yo’s. These were easy and fun to make. I am going to make more to match all of the little outfits I make for Paige and with other fabric scraps. They really take just a little piece of fabric which is nice. I tried to make them entirely on the sewing machine, but I found that they work better when done by hand. I did sew the side seam on the machine though.

Take a strip of fabric (any size…just a long rectangle) and press it in half the long ways.

Put short ends together and sew the seam together. This is the part I normally do on the machine, but can also easily be done by hand too. You can see on the inside that I did this one by hand.

On the long, raw, inside edge do a long running stitch that starts on one side all the way around to the other.  A running stitch is just an in and out stitch as seen here.

When you get back around to your starting point, gather the stitches to form a circle. Make sure it is nice and tight. Tie both end in four or so overhand knots.

Cut out a piece of felt large enough to slip in a clip and cover the raw middle. Cut a slit in the felt on one end. Slide one of the prongs of an alligator clip into the slit. Cover the bottom of the felt and the bottom of the clip with hot glue. Adhere to the bottom of the yo-yo.

Turn yo-yo over to front side. Choose a button you like and either sew it to the middle or hot glue it on. I usually glue mine…much easier!

Voila…done. Easy as pie and cute as can be!

Here is another idea of what you can do with these. I made Miss P a dress (not the one she is wearing) and wanted to have a matching headband. I took a plastic headband from the craft store, covered it in grosgrain ribbon and adhered three little yo-yo’s to it. I will snap a picture of the dress soon too. It is super cute!!

**please excuse my ugly nails and poor photos…I just used my point and shoot**

Hope you enjoy!!

Five on Friday-St. George, Utah Photographer

Posted on January 22, 2010

Well, here we are again, a week later and so many things to talk about. I will jump right in.

1. So, went to Kohl’s this week to get my little boy some new church pants. As I am looking through the clearance rack and my kids were a few feet away in the toy section my son yells to me, “Mom, Paige peed all over the floor.” Sure enough, my daughter who has NEVER had an accident in public in the seven months she has been potty trained let it all go on the floor of the store…clothes soaked, socks soaked, shoes pooled with liquid. It was disgusting. I had to buy an entirely new outfit for her…panties, top and pants. Luckily I love buying clothes for the kids and found something very cute, but still, REALLY?? Sometimes I wonder why I take them in public :) .

2. Okay, let’s talk about “The Bachelor”. Any of you watch it? This is the first season I have ever watched and it is like a train wreck. It is so pathetic and the girls are so completely petty, yet I am still sucked in. I think Jake seems to be a really nice guy, but I think I have some issues with the basic premise of some guy going from girl to girl making out on the same day. And, let’s talk about some of the crazies they have for girls…Michelle, Vienna, Rosalind. Really, at this point I say he burn all the roses and start over. Maybe someone will end up being great, but I am not hopeful.

3. So, this,
my friends, is the bane of my existence. LAUNDRY. It NEVER ends. Never. And this isn’t all of it. Granted I should probably fold as I go, but I detest doing laundry. Some day, when I am really rich (ha!) I am hiring someone to do it for me.

4. Is anyone else having a hard time getting back into good eating habits since the holidays?? I feel like baking and eating all day. Yes, I know it is cold and dreary out, but really, I have to get out of this eating funk. Anyone have good tips? I could use them.

5. So my cousin told me about this new ticket thing she is trying with her kids. The basic premise is that you give them tickets as they do good things and they can use their tickets to “buy” things…candy, park time, toys, special times with parent’s etc. I thought it sounded like a nice form of positive reinforcement and we need some of that around here. Sometimes I feel like I spend so much time raising my voice (aka yelling) and I want to try doing something different. I would love any suggestions of things that have worked with your kids. I have my “Love and Logic” book out again and am going to reread and recommit to using it, but I always love to get practical ideas that work from other parent’s. Please share!!

Little Miss B-St. George Newborn Photographer

Posted on January 21, 2010

I have had a wave of baby boys (which have all been adorable), but it was nice to have a little girl to accessorize!! She was a sweet, tiny little thing and slept like a champ! I couldn’t have hope for more.

Posted on January 19, 2010

I know, I know, it is Tuesday, but it’s raining and that really put a damper on my fun idea. Plus, life just slows down when it rains, right? And, it was a holiday. All great excuses why I am barely posting this before it is officially Wednesday.

This isn’t what I had planned originally, but I really wanted to capture my sweet Miss P. She is such a little character and I often find her all decked out in her princess garb, with food in her purse, cell phone in hand, and plenty of accessories. You have to love little girls. She is just that too…a girly girl. Wow, she goes through more clothes than I ever imagined a child could. She changes multiple times each day, changes hair accessories and SOCKS. I had to move her socks out of her reach because I no longer have any matching ones. She is obsessed with putting socks on for 10 minutes and then leaving them wherever she finds herself…the trampoline, behind chairs, bathroom floor, car.

She has outdone my son when it comes to busy-ness. This child is NON-STOP. The energy never runs out. She is constantly into mischief…she flooded my bathroom floor (took 10 towels to clean it) yesterday when she insisted I give her “pwivacy” in the bathroom (yes, I know that was a lack of judgement on my part!). She gets hair product out and applies it liberally whenever she can sneak off to the bathroom. She loves to get into my makeup, dump things out, and make messes.

Yet, she is everything I ever hoped for in a little girl. She is fun, cute, feisty, outgoing, and has the cutest curly hair and raspy voice. And, despite all my flaws as a mom, she adores me. It is always me that she wants to snuggle with. She always asks, “when you be home” if I am leaving without her and is so excited when I return. She makes me laugh and cry in the same moment. So here she is…isn’t she a cutie? I sure think so.

The second picture I titled, “someday my prince will come” and that smile in the last….my children have a hard time coming up with a normal smile when I take pictures. She doesn’t have an underbite, but she insisted on smiling with one…whatever floats her boat!

Five On Friday (St. George, Utah Photographer)

Posted on January 15, 2010

What is “Five on Friday”, you ask?? Well, it is a blogging idea I got from a fellow photographer where I can talk about any five things I want on Fridays. How fun is that? Really, for those who know me, you know that talking about random things comes very easily to me. What I really want from this, though is for others to share their opinions on what I say as well (and if you think I am totally crazy, you can say it, just please say it nicely…HA!) So, here we go. Here are a few of the things that have been stewing in my brain this past week for this post.

1. I {HEART} popcorn. Really, mildly obsessed. I think what I really like is that I can eat a lot and not feel guilty (as long as I don’t smother it in butter–YUM!). I got an air popper for Christmas and have used it many a time since then. Did you know that yellow popcorn pops much larger and fluffier than white?? It is true. What is your favorite snack??

2. This is a fantastic toy…It is called “Frigits” and it is a magnetic marble run for the refrigerator. My kids aren’t toy kids, but they have spent so much time constructing these while I cook dinner or clean. It is so nice. And, it is fun for adults too! You can buy it at Amazon.com.

3. So, I just watched the first season of the show “GLEE”. Very cute and creative show. I spend a lot of time on the computer editing photos and I like to go to different networks to see what shows they have available to watch. Here are some of my favorites:

Burn Notice–fantastic writing. Love the characters and story lines.

Brothers and Sisters–true drama and very engaging. I make the hubster watch sometimes and so tonight when I turned an episode on while making dinner he had me fill him in on what had happened since he last watched.

Castle–good mystery show, fun characters and not too bloody.

The Office–really, need I say more?

V–I remember watching the old one and so when they came out with the new, I was anxious to watch. I have really enjoyed it!

Dancing With the Stars–fun.

Frasier–So, so funny.

I could go on, but I will stop. I would love your suggestions on other great shows. I am always looking for something good!

4. I love this foodie blog. Check it out if you enjoy cooking. Everything I have tried has turned out great!

5. Decided to paint my bedroom. Can’t wait to post some after pics!

and the winner of the Target gift card is…

Posted on January 15, 2010

okay, okay…so I am embarrassed that I am (insert nervous cough) 5 days late on announcing the winner of my Target gift card. I don’t really have a good excuse except that I am a mom and sometimes am overcome by mom brain and that I have spent all my free time this week sewing and creating.  So, without further ado, the winner is:

#9-Chelsey! Hooray for you! Email me your address and I will get it sent out this next week. Thank you to all who participated. Keep checking back for another contest in the coming weeks!!

This beautiful lady is my 93 year old grandma. I have had the privledge to live down the street from her for the past 6 years and it has been such a blessing. My kids adore her as she does them. She spoils them like a great grandma (Grams) should. She is also such a friend to me. We get together every Sunday evening to watch the Masterpiece Classic. She is spunky and smart even at her age. I sure love you Grandma!
